Hyderabad: International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) conducted its 21st convocation,a record number of 556 UG students, 22 PhDs and 133 Masters with thesis have received their respective degrees.

The 2022 batch is the first batch to graduate based on the new academic curriculum that was revised and implemented in 2018.155 out of 556 or around 28 per cent of these graduates earned their degree based on a high-quality thesis. Jivitesh Jain, B Tech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was awarded the IIIT-H gold medal in recognition for his outstanding academic performance as he scored a perfect 10 CGPA, a first in the history of the institute. Tanvi Karandikar (B Tech in CSE) and Madhukar Dwivedi (Master of Science in CSE) were awarded best all-rounders for their notable contributions in academics, extra-curricular activities and IIIT-H services.

Prof Alison Noble FRS, Technikos Professor in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford, UK graced the occasion as chief guest, while addressing the packed gathering she told that leadership comes with responsibility and wished the graduates a success in their endeavours, she further added, "This is very special convocation especially after coming out of the challenging times, AI and robotics are exciting technologies which will transform the future."

Prof PJ Narayanan, Director, IIIT-H, while commending the graduating students and their parents, said: "Due to the global pandemic the graduating bachelors and masters students did most of the heavy courses in an online mode, without the interactions with classmates and teachers that enrich the academic experience. This is perhaps the most resilient batch to graduate from the Institute. Life throws challenges at each of us frequently enough. Ploughing on towards the goals while keeping one's composure is what the brave do, learning from different experiences takes one ahead; brooding over what was lost keeps us back in life".

Turing award winner Prof Raj Reddy, Chairman, Governing Council of IIIT-Hyderabad dialled in to the convocation from the US to admit students to their degrees and congratulated the graduating students.
